Yorkshire Summer Action Gathering
- Saul, Claire, Julia, Sue and Liddy all attended the Regional Gathering that this year was held in the Workstation near Sheffield station. Claire welcomed attendees to Sheffield on behalf of the group and organised an icebreaker and a social walk and quiz at the end of the day that finished at the Sheffield Tap. We attended useful workshops on Misinformation and Communication.
Campaigns
Planet over Profit Campaign- All the postcards collected so far have been sent to MPs with a letter urging them to sign the Good Business Pledge, as so far Abtisam Mohammed is the only Sheffield MP to have signed up. Simon Bowens has offered to ensure the postcards or non-Sheffield MPs are appropriately delivered directly or via local groups.
- Letters have been sent to Howdens local branches about illegal logging but no response as yet. Next steps were discussed to publicise the issue, potentially using animal masks and placards to create a photo opportunity.
- Next Webinar - Wednesday 16 September, 7.00pm
- Westminster Action on Wednesday 21 October
- Julia shared information about joint planning with Global Justice Now for days of action in mid October on scrapping ISDS which allows mega corporations to sue states -she has offered to feed back from future meetings.
Climate Change- The next steps were discussed but the listening exercise and survey of community priorities is based on having stalls to engage with people face to face. Plan is therefore to continue to look for opportunities for more stalls.
- What Matters Most - https://actionnetwork.org/forms/what-matters-most-in-sheffield/
- There is also a useful Webinar that individuals can sign up to - Building local resilience to online climate disinformation, Monday 21 September, 7.00pm
Group Development
- Shaun explained that he is putting a list of issues that currently make group admin difficult together for Simon Bowens and will share with the group.
- Saul is helping with the newsletter - and this is current priority for using Action Network.
- Shania may be able to help with social media.
Events
- Shaun, Saul, Claire and Liddy attended the Sheffield Environmental Volunteering Celebration 2026.
