Savages Film Screening

On the 26th March, Sheffield FoE partnered with Sheffield University's Planet over Profit Change Lab team and the university's Film Unit for a unique and inspiring evening in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium.

A free showing of the beautiful, funny and heartwarming film "Savages" was followed by a very engaged and lively panel discussion of the issues raised, chaired by the Change Lab students and featuring Anna James, the Student Union Sustainability Officer and Sheffield Friends of the Earth's coordinator Shaun Rumbelow.

The film is centred on a young girl’s quest to rescue a baby orangutan from loggers in the jungles of Borneo and explores themes of deforestation and Indigenous land rights. The film showing and panel discussion were sponsored by Friends of the Earth to support the "Planet over Profit" campaign pushing for a new UK law which would hold UK companies legally responsible for preventing harm to forests, wildlife, and communities in their supply chains.

If you missed it, or want to share with family and friends, the film is also available from Curzon for £5
