- Next Webinar
- Thursday 29 Jan 6pm - 7.15pm- Training and events | Local action
Data Campaign- Saul shared a FoE presentation on using local data in your campaign and suggesting ideas on how and when to use data tools. There are maps of data available level at LSOA for air pollution by pollutant level and for renewable energy, climate change impacts and bus service decline by geography. Possible to generate comparative data eg for different areas within SouthYorkshire. They are also mapping a composite measure IMED (Index of Multiple Environmental Deprivation). They can share GIS mapping tools for mapping local data. Saul suggested we could generate short reports to share with MPs, journalists and on our stalls. Shaun had some suggestions for national FoE to bring all the data sets and mapping.mapping tools into one portal - Saul suggested we could all contact the national FoE team if there was specific data that it would be useful to map locally.
Climate Change
- Election campaign - local elections will be early May and could be an opportunity to engage with candidates and councillors. However Shaun and Sue attended a FoE webinar which encouraged groups to start by engaging people in the local community through a listening exercise before addressing the issues identified by dispelling myths or providing information. We discussed methods for getting information including surveying our members or using the survey data that has already been collected in FoE datasets that Saul shared. We agree to keep a watching brief, talk to people whilst running stalls but continue mainly to focus on the PoP campaign.
Any Other Business
- Building People Power training course - Ashwini & Liddy are completing three modules over the next three months and the first one focuses on group culture and group development. Questions for the group include considering our strengths and what we struggle with and we identified that we do feel we are an inclusive, welcoming group which values people with different levels of knowledge and different capacity to contribute according to their capacity. It was suggested we could organise an annual event to attract new members so we could continue to grow the group and that Simon might be able to support this.
- Future training events can be accessed through this link: https://groups.friendsoftheearth.uk/training/training-and-events
- Social Media - Shaun is working on social media with one of the Change Lab students and has signed up for updates on Misinformation and Disinformation. We have had a request about our Thermal Imaging Camera and Shaun is going to see if we can get it from Lindy to use next winter.
