Business

Campaigns


Change Lab & Planet over Profit Campaign

  • Change Lab - Introduction to the Change Lab team: Innara, Mary, Iman, Autumn, Sofia, Nita, Theeba, Jessye, Ismael
    • Their first meeting was last week and they have a second induction meeting arranged for this week and will have a group co-ordinator identified by the SU team.
    • Shaun has offered to take up an opportunity to arrange a session with the national PoP team to meet with the CL team and speak to them about the PoP campaign aims
  • Petition
    • New Year hand over to MPs. We have postcards for a diverse range of MPs (not just Sheffield) - will need to decide what to do with these
    • On-line petition - only 49 signatures as of 17/10/25. Discuss a need for a fresh think about how to use social media or other strategies to raise awareness/get people to engage.
  • Stalls
    • Pollen Market review - we discuss the two stalls and the pros and cons of a shared stall; agreed that a single campaign would have been better than trying to have three on one stall.
    • Planning for Sun 2 Nov - Sheffield Biodiversity & Regenerative Food Festival. Claire will put a timetable for volunteers on the Whats App group.
    • Sat 15 Nov - COP March & Rally followed by event in Victoria Hall. Ashwini to respond on our behalf to offer to have a staff.
    • Tony Juniper event - Shaun reported that we had not response to request to have a stall.
    • Any other stalls - agreed to start planning for more events in the New Year.
  • Businesses - Shaun has a web form that can be used to generate letters but not had time to get responses from businesses. We discussed other approaches including mapping ethical businesses, giving them material to display in their shops etc.
  • Unions - Liddy reported no responses to email requests for action and sharing petition.
COP 30 (see discussion above)
  • Friday 14th November - TU/Climate day of action.
  • March and stall - Saturday 15th November is a Global Day of Action - Sheffield/South Yorkshire.
Climate Plan

  • Meeting with Abtisam Mohamed MP (climate & PoP) - Julia arranging Zoom meeting for Monday 17 November 5:30pm (before monthly local group meeting.
  • Letter to Mayor - Shaun has not had a response so agreed to delay contact until Climate Plan published.
  • Student Journalism request for Sheffield Council Plan - Ashwini shared the list of questions and although we agreed some questions we do not have the information to answer, she may share some draft responses where it might be possible to provide relevant FoE information.

Webinars and online meetings

  • Asad Rehman CEO meeting feedback - several members attended and recording is available.
  • Northern FoE Meeting feedback - Shaun attended and got offer of meeting for Change Lab on PoP.
  • Combating the Right - Sue and Julia attended but found there was little discussion of direct action beyond engaging with individuals on climate issues.
