Meeting notes September 15th 2025
7.30pm - 9pm University Arms
Attendees: Julia, Sue, Saul, Claire, Shaun, Liddy
Apologies: Bee, Vicky, Ashwini
Meetings
We discussed options for online or hybrid meetings over the winter and agreed to meet via Zoom in Oct, Nov, Jan and Feb with potential for a social get together instead of (or as well as) a meeting (suggestions welcome - we could also combine a short meeting and Christmas meal).
University of Sheffield Change Lab
This is a funded programme run by the Students Union to allow community projects to work with groups of students. We discussed the need for a brief that would attract students - we will also need to attend an induction event on 15th and/or 22 October. The students may be able to attend our October meeting depending on when the project start date is.
Campaigns
COP30
Ashwini shared notes with an update on plans for actions in Sheffield and how we tie in the FoE actions for the PoP campaign. For the moment we will continue with the PoP campaign and be prepared to link to other SYCA activities when specific plans are shared.
Climate Plan
We have an invitation for a meeting with Abtisam Mohamed MP to discuss the Climate Plan and Planet over Profit - Julia will ask if she has availability to a Zoom or in person meeting.
Letter to Oliver Coppard, SY Mayor - Shaun has sent the letter on behalf of the group asking for support for the Climate Plan but we have not had a response yet - Shaun offered to chase up.
Planet over Profit campaign
Stalls
- Pollen market stall - this is a joint stall with Greenpeace and Action on Plastics on Sunday, Sep 21
- Tony Juniper stall - 18 October at 6:00 pm at Showroom Cinema - Shaun to chase up as response
- Sheffield Biodiversity and Regenerative Food Festival is on 2nd Nov 10-4pm - this could be an opportunity for Change Hub students to get involved in a stall.
There are a number of other potential events for stalls over the next few months including the Sheffield Vegan Festival (12 October) but we may need to prioritise which we book on the basis of how relevant the event is and capacity to man a stall.
Businesses and Unions - no new responses; Our on-line petition has 34 signatures (as of 10/9/25).
We’ve been asked by national FoE to write to MPs to encourage them to attend the FoE “Planet over Profit” event at the Labour Conference 28 Sept
Events
Introducing Asad Rehman, FoE's New Chief Executive - Thu Sep 25 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Next meeting - via Zoom + at The University Arms (laptop will be available to join hybrid meeting) on Monday 20 Octoter 7:30 -9pm
Notes
Labour Conference
Hi all, we have an exciting fringe event for Planet Over Profit coming up at the Labour Party conference (Sun 28 Sept 3.15pm at Bluecoat Liverpool) and would really love your help getting Labour MPs to attend. If you have a Labour MP/s in your group's area, please could you send them a quick email to ask them to attend the fringe event? We've done a template email here you can adapt and a brief explainer:
Many thanks, we really appreciate your help getting the word out to MPs (and if you are in/near Liverpool on 28th you are very welcome to attend! Conference pass not required)
