July meeting notes

Attendees: Liddy, Shaun, Claire, Saul, Bee, Sue. Julia.  Apologies: Ashwini, Sara,

Summer Action Gathering

We have agreed we’d be happy to host a Summer Action Gathering in Sheffield in Summer 2026. Several venues near the station and community caterers (eg FoodWorks using surplus food?)

Action: Shaun to let Simon know.

Stalls

Pollen Market - Sunday 20 July - The set up and planning worked well although there were a lot of WhatsApp and emails so could try and streamline communication. Despite the weather we did have some interest and got more than 20 postcards signed. Action: Need to find opportunities for getting more postcards signed.

Action: Claire to see if possible to book SHU and UoS (8 Oct) volunteering fairs.

Sheffield Biodiversity & Regenerative Food Festival - 2nd November 2025. Claire shared some details. Stall is free and a gazebo on the Moor can be provided.

Storage of the gazebo and other stall equipment

Action: Claire and Saul have kindly agreed to collect from Lindy as they have a car and space. Can then review what else we still need eg new table, banners etc.

Campaigns

Climate Plan

Mass Climate Lobby Report - the Sheffield event was poorly advertised and  only a few FoE and Greenpeace members attended.

Climate Scorecard - this may be useful for campaigning and compares Sheffield to other councils in terms of performance and any improvements: Council Climate Action Scorecards | Climate Emergency UK

Planet over Profit

Petition - this has been shared on social media; need to share as widely as possible and use QR code. Action: Shaun to ask Lindy to share with SYCA.

Letters of support from business -  Action: Shaun has generated a list of ethical companies and an email to ask them to write a letter of support and Julie has also offered to contact local businesses. We discussed a simpler way of getting businesses to sign up by going in to shops or mailing a letter that they can sign and return. Action: Shaun to share spreadsheet and letter template.

Unison - plan is to get letters signed by local Unison reps Action: Liddy to follow up with contacts provided by Shaun.

Contacting MPs - Clive Betts and Gill Furness have responded with personal email responses; others may need chasing up.

Next Webinar - Wed 27 August. See Planet Over Profit: Building towards COP30 Tickets, Wed, Aug 27, 2025 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite

COP30 day of action - Saturday 15 November

This is likely to involve other campaigning groups.

Action: Saul and Bee to find out about other groups plans including SYCA, Greenpeace etc.

AOB

Shaun shared an email about Conisbrough solar farm - agreed we couldn’t prioritise campaigning against solar schemes outside Sheffield.

Next meeting date and venue: 18 August 7:30pm - agreed to book the University Arms but consider online business meetings during winter months.
