July event: Green Estate visit

July's Meeting - a visit to Green Estate in the Manor area of Sheffield

We took our July meeting outside - on a beautiful evening (after lots of days of rain!) and were hosted by Sally of the Green Estate team who showed 20 or so of us around the fabulous site.

Originally set up in 2003 as a heritage and environmental project, Green Estate is a Community Interest Company which has turned 42 hectares of what was derelict land into a beautiful and sustainable landscape which benefits nature and people.

The views across Sheffield were amazing and the range of projects on site were fascinating; testimony to what can be done even in the most unlikely locations. Highlights of course were the famous pictorial meadows which were in full bloom and which surrounded the historic Manor Lodge where Mary Queen of Scots spent some time imprisoned.
