We were pleased to be part of the Sheffield march and rally on November 6th, joining hundreds of thousands of others across the world in raising our voices to tell global leaders meeting at COP26 that action is needed fast on the climate crisis and that it is essential that those who have contributed so little to the crisis yet will be first and worst affected are supported to adapt to the critical changes coming their way all too soon, as well as to decarbonise their own economies.
The placards, banners and masks, provided by FoE, were eagerly taken up by a wide variety of marchers as well as a core of Sheffield FoE activists. These largely focused on the importance of the UK refusing to sanction oil and coal exploitation in the UK and financing gas production in Mozambique. Whatever steps need to be taken in the very near future to decarbonise our own economy, one thing is certain - we must NOT be exploiting new reserves of fossil fuels. Keep them in the ground!
We were also pleased that Friends of the Earth took up lots of the photos below for their video of the day!
