Climate Strike

Richard updated the group on the planned Climate Strike actions. There was a FoE webinar attended by Sara who provided some notes on how we can contribute; although employees cannot legally strike at work we can take time of work or support the school children’s strike in time off/lunch hours etc. There is another webinar on the 3 Sept and Tamara has volunteered to join on behalf of the group. Emails will be circulated by national FoE with links to materials e.g. sample letters for MPs.

There are also going to be Extinction Rebellion actions and suggestions for what individuals, schools and workplaces can do. There is an action in Sheffield on 20 Sept with a planning meeting at 7pm, Quaker Meeting House on 3 Sept.

We have agreed to have a FoE stall at the action and potentially try and get MPs to come and do a surgery with the school children at the stall – there will also be a Sheffield Against Fracking stall.

Various creative ideas have been suggested to getting as many people as possible able to contribute e.g. suggesting people make banners to bring out or organising a fire practice to get people out of their offices at the time of the action. Plans will be reviewed and confirmed at our 16 Sept meeting.
