John, Steve P and members from Greenpeace ran a stall in Doncaster to highlight the problems with fracking. They handed out around 5000 leaflets which must be a record for us!
Beatrice has been working with Sheffield City Council to look at the Mineral Rights Obligation. She mentioned that the tax relief wouldn't be as much as expected as it doesn't apply to setting up and decommissioning the fracking plants. She mentioned that tax relief also applies to renewable energy so it would be better choice. Beatrice has another 4 meetings planned with the council.
Richard hosted a very busy Sheffield Friends of the Earth stall in Dinnington to explain what fracking is about and to collect signatures for our petition. To Richard’s delight, he also received a free lunch!
The Frack Free South Yorkshire group (FFSY) is planning to run publicity stalls every other weekend. One is planned for Saturday 22nd February in Bassetlaw and several Sheffield FoE members will be helping out.
