Maureen is commenting on the draft Sheffield Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) which has been produced to help address the air quality problems in our urban area. Poor air quality harms human health and each year in Sheffield this has been estimated to cause up to 500 premature deaths with costs to health of around £95million.
The aim of draft AQAP is to identify actions that can be taken to reduce local air pollution in order to meet National and European Union approved air quality standards. It will also have the added benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.
