Jenny Wood Memorial Trust
The sponsored bike ride from Camden to Cambridge held in June has raised an amazing £3,000! There is still some money to come in, so if you have not made your promised donation please send if now. The money will be used to help fund an unban wildlife reserve in London, and to set up an environmental travel bursary.

Jenny was a former Sheffield FoE member who was very tragically killed while travelling in Germany a year ago. The aim of the trust is to commemorate her life and her active work with several FoE local groups and the London Wildlife Trust. If you would like to contribute  please send cheques (made out to Sheffield FoE) to Janice Lincoln, 71 Hastings Road, Sheffield 57 ZGT.

New Local Group at Chesterfield
Chesterfield now has its own Friends of the Earth group. It is one of a number of recently formed groups, bringing the total of FoE local groups in England and Wales to 275.

Rotherham also has its own group,  now about 3 years old, but none of the other large towns in the area , Barnsley, Doncaster or Wakefield has a FoE group. Yet other nearby groups include Leeds, Mansfield, Derby, Lincoln, Huddersfield, and Glossop. Contacts for Rotherham and Chesterfield FoE groups are:

Anti-Fluoride/Pure Water
Water and the Politics of Health:  the Case of Fluoridation - a lecture followed by a discussion with Dr. Mark Diesendorf, Senior Research Fellow, Australian institute of Health, Canberra.

Time and place: Wednesday 4th October, Lecture Room 9, Arts Tower, University of Sheffield. 5 - 6.30pm.

This lecture is hosted by the University Policy Studies Centre.

Water Authorities have refused to continue or extend fluoridation schemes under privatisation without unlimited insurance coven from the government, which we believe to be an admission of risk. This lecture should be of interest to anybody following the rough course of water privatisation, and also to those who assisted in the successful local anti-fluoridation campaign. Dr. Diesendonf was principal convenor of an Australian national conference on the impact of Environment and Lifestyle on Human Health.
