Fracking

Doncaster Fracking Public Meeting
Friends of the Earth have organised a free public meeting on Monday 2 June, 7pm – 8.30pm at the Point Community Arts Centre, 16 South Parade, Doncaster, DN1 2DR

Fracking is a hot topic as new applications for test drilling spread across the UK. Locally, exploratory drilling has recently happened at Daneshill near Retford. More applications are expected across the region as big French companies Total and GDF Suez invest heavily in the area. Everywhere it goes, fracking raises valid concerns about the risks to the local environment, people's health and its impact on climate change.

Join Friends of the Earth and toxins expert Dr Mariann Lloyd-Smith to find out more about this controversial technique at a free public meeting on Monday 2 June in Doncaster. Dr Mariann Lloyd-Smith is a world expert on the environmental and health impacts of fracking. She’ll talk about her experiences and the evidence she’s gathered of the real impacts of fracking on communities in Australia. Dr Lloyd-Smith will be joined by David Burley from Frack Free South Yorkshire and Andrew Pendleton, Head of Campaigns at Friends of the Earth.

Frack Free South Yorkshire
David Burley from Frack Free South Yorkshire gave us an update. There are now licences up for tender across South Yorkshire. FFSY want to leaflet as much of the area as possible and would like help with this task. David will send details for anyone who is interested.

David Burley is to have a meeting with Lush. It was suggested that they build a model fracking rig, Set fire to water, give out jars of dirty fracked water.

Green Commission
Green Commission: no details as yet from the council but Beatrice is to go to a meeting on Wednesday and will raise this issue with them.
