Planning Master Class

Richard talked about his Master Class on The National Planning Policy Framework.  A film was shown about a successful campaign opposing the building of an incinerator in Merthyr Tydfil.  Before the campaign FoE was thought of as a bunch of tree huggers but afterwards as a very useful organisation with expertise.  The NPPF does not include National Infrastructure, Waste or Transport.  Local and Neighbourhood Plans can be drawn up but they have to fit in with National Policies.  If there is no Local Plan then as from
March 2013 there will be a presumption in favour of sustainable development.  ‘Sustainable development’ is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  Applicants should always consult with the community before submitting planning applications.  Sheffield FoE could apply to be on a consultation database.
