Happy 30th Birthday

Sheffield Friends of the Earth celebrated our 30th birthday this year. The local group was formed in 1974 and has been campaigning on environmental issues for the last 30 years. To celebrate we created a display of these 30 years of campaigning and took it to libraries and exhibitions around the city.

On May 12th we launched the display with a public meeting. Jude Warrender recalled some of the campaigns of the 70’s and 80’s, and Rebecca Higman took us through the 90’s. Steve Goodacre outlined current campaigns before Nicola Freeman looked into the future. Following this we heard from other environmental organisations about their activities in Sheffield: Greenpeace, the Green Party, Sheffield Community Volunteers, Heeley City Farm and Pedal Pushers.

Finally (what we had all been waiting for), no less than three different birthday cakes!
