Reg Martin

We are very saddened to hear of the death of Reg Martin, Sheffield Friends of the Earth treasurer from 1982 until 1994. For all those years we relied on Reg to keep our finances in order, which he always did, through all the ups and downs of the group. From the days when we held meetings in the basement of the old Friends' Meeting House, until we moved to Voluntary Services House where we had an office and employed workers on the Community Programme scheme, to our move to the Bridge Environment Centre.

Reg hardly ever missed a meeting, and was always around when we held events and stalls to bank our hard earned funds. It was only when he felt unable to attend meetings on winter nights, that he handed over the post of treasurer in 1994.

Reg always enjoyed walking in the countryside, and one of the last meetings we recall him attending, together with his wife, was when the group spent a pleasant summer evening walking along the newly opened Five Weirs Walk from Meadowhall to the City Centre.

We shall remember Reg with gratitude and affection and offer our sincere condolences to his family.

Following Reg's death, several members of his family have made donations to the group. In total, the group has received £155. We would like to thank everyone who has made a donation.
