No Shop Day

No shop day is our opportunity to tackle consumerism head on. This annual event is co-ordinated by Enough - the Anti-consumerism Campaign, and is billed as “a symbolic day of witty and thought provoking events to challenge the unsustainable excesses of our consumer culture.” Last year actions took place in many towns in the UK (and in the USA, Canada, Sweden and Australia) and included such bizarre events such as the sale of cans and bags of “happiness” on street stalls, and lounges appearing in High Streets labelled “shopping free zones”. This year, Sheffield FoE will be joining with local residents to object to the building of another Morrisons superstore.
